Pomegranate can prevent diseases caused by nervous disorders.

If you are a fruit loving person, you will be happy to add pomegranates to your diet. According to a study in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, eating pomegranate prevents neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. Science has shown that pomegranate has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer effects, and even anti-aging effects, thus protecting our neurons.

Recent studies by the American Chemical Society have shown that this bright red fruit plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The researchers emphasized that the compound that plays an anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective role in pomegranate is called urolithins. Urolithins is ellagic tannin (a polyphenol in pomegranate) produced by intestinal bacterial metabolism. Polyphenols are strong antioxidants existing in large quantities of fruits and vegetables.

Researchers found that urolithins lowered the level of_-amyloid protein, an important substance that forms toxic substances in neurons in Alzheimer's disease. The team of chemists is trying to figure out how pomegranate compounds cross the brain-blood barrier to protect the brain from the formation of these harmful proteins.

Chemists separated the 21 polyphenols from pomegranate extract and identified them. They found that none of these polyphenols could bypass the brain-blood barrier, but urolithins, a metabolite of some polyphenols, did. Urolithins have been shown to be beneficial to health in previous studies, especially in preventing certain cancers (such as colon, breast and prostate cancer) and lowering cholesterol (triglycerides in the blood).

To enjoy the health benefits of pomegranate, it is best to eat fresh pomegranates. You can squeeze pomegranates lightly, pierce holes on the peel, and insert pits into pomegranate juice. You can also press pomegranates (juice containing pulp) like pressed oranges or lemons. From a commercial point of view, pomegranate juice is acceptable, but it should be made from pure fruit without any added sugar.
